Blueberry hills, Midlands

Blueberry hills, Midlands

On Sunday afternoon 5 August 1962, I was arrested en route from Durban to
Johannesburg. It was clear cool day and I revelled in the beauty of the
Natal country side, just past Howick ” Nelson Mandela.
That for me captures the essence of the Midlands. And perhaps today he would
add to that, the hospitality of the locals and marvel their simple country
side kitchens for the traveller. So I picked the Blueberry hills recommended
by a friend and inspired by Blueberry heights in Magoebaskloof, with its
misty landscapes and an odd Peru native Llama grazing along the country
side. Perhaps it is the home-made bread served with delicious almost home
cooked cuisine that captured my attention and a blue berry cheese cake every
table ordered.
